If you have a child suffering from complications from Craniosynostosis, Kansas City plastic surgeon Jeffrey W. Colyer, M.D. can help. With a board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) and a specialization in craniofacial surgery, you can rest assured that Dr. Colyer brings years of skill and knowledge to every surgery he performs at Plastic Surgical Arts.
What is Craniosynostosis?
Craniosynostosis is a condition in which the cranial sutures (or joints) close too early, causing problems with normal brain and skull growth. Premature closure of these sutures may also cause the pressure inside of the head to increase and the skull or facial bones to appear abnormal or misshapen.
For babies born with multiple-fused sutures, Kansas craniofacial expert Dr. Colyer maintains that corrective surgery is best done within the first two weeks of an infant's life.
There are several syndromes associated with Craniosynostosis. Some of these include:
Apert Syndrome
Crouzon Syndrome
Jackson-Weiss Syndrome
Loeys-Dietz Syndrome
